Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya biography

M. Visvesvaraya was one of the great engineers of India, who created the modern India and gave India a new look. His vision and dedication in engineering field made some extraordinary contributions to India.

Visvesvaraya was born on September 15, 1860 in the princely state of Mysore, which has now become the state of Karnataka. His father Srinivasa Shastri was a Sanskrit scholar and Ayurvedic physician. Her mother Venkachamma was a religious woman. When Visvesvaraya was 15 years old, her father was dead. He completed his primary schooling from Chikballapur, and he went to Bangalore for further studies.

In 1881, Visvesvaraya passed the BA examination from the Central College, University of Madras, Bangalore. After this, he got help from the Government of Mysore and he enrolled for engineering at Poona Science College. In 1883 he was ranked first in the LCE and FCE examinations. (These exams are like BE today)

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Career

After passing the engineering, Visvesvaraya received a job offer from the Bombay Government, and she got an assignment as Assistant Engineer in Nashik. As an engineer, he did a lot of amazing work. He started the supply of water from the Indus river to Sukkur village, as well as started a new irrigation system 'Block System'. They put steel doors in the dam so that the water flow of the dam can easily be stopped. He played an important role in making Krishnaraj Sagar dam in Mysore. Many such works were done by Visvesvaraya, whose list is endless.

In 1903 built a dam in Khadakwasla reservoir of Pune. There were doors like this that could bear the pressure of the flood, and there was no harm to the dam. Following the success of this dam, the Tigara dam in Gwalior and Krishna Raja Sagra (KRS) in Mysore of Karnataka was built. Krishna Raja Sagara built on Kaveri river was built by Visvesvaraya in his watch, after which the dam was inaugurated. When this dam was being constructed, then it was the largest reservoir in Asia.

In 1906-07, the Indian government sent them 'Aden' for the education of water supply and drainage system. The project they were made was successfully implemented in Aden. The entire credit of making Hyderabad City goes to Visvesvaraya ji. They prepared a flood protection system there, after which they all got their name in India. They played an important role in developing a system for the conservation of the Vaishakhpatnam port by sea erosion.

Visvesvaraya was called the father of Modern Mysore State. When he worked with the Government of Mysore, he got Mysore Soap Factory, Parasite Laboratory, Mysore Iron and Steel Factory, Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic Institute, Bangalore Agricultural University, State Bank of Mysore, Century Club, Mysore Chambers of Commerce and University Visvesvaraya College Off Engineering is established.

Along with this, other educational institutions and factories were also established. Visvesvaraya played an important role in adopting the scheme for road construction between Tirumala and Tirupati.

After achieving independence, in 1955, Visvesvaraya Ji was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest honour.

Visvesvaraya ji died on April 14, 1962.
