Google authenticator has finally received its first update in nearly 3 years. It is the company’s authentication app that is based on codes. The app’s interface has been updated for large screens and is also delivering one of the highly needed features of the platform.
What is Google Authenticator?
Google authenticator is a mobile security application that is based on two-factor authentication. It helps in granting access to websites and other important services to its users. The system merges Knowledge features with the Ownership features. it is based on the TOTP feature: Time-Based-One-Time-Password. The last Android version was updated on August 22nd,2017 and for the iOS users, it’s just been a year now.
Google Authenticator extension
It is for the first time that Authenticator users will now be able to transfer their accounts from one gadget to another and that too very easily. The users need not transfer the codes manually or they don’t even need to disable the account and then reenable it later with two-factor authentication. An import and export tool is used for this feature to be updated.
It allows you to choose which account to keep for further usage and makes the transfers easier by introducing a single QR code scan. This feature has already been introduced by one of Google Authenticator’s competitor Authy. But it’s still interesting to know that Google Authenticator has come up with the same idea. Even if it’s been quite a few years for Authy to come with this update but it still seems the right time for Google Authenticator to come up with it now.
Not just the transfers but the update even adjusted the app’s layout with a 16:9 screen ratio. And for those who do or do not have OLED screens can adjust the screen to a dark mode as well. But it’s only available for the Android users and it might take some time to reach for the iOS users.
