When it’s vampire diaries, the phrase ‘expect the unexpected’ surely justifies and proves right. The story always has something more to offer and the characters never disappoint but some have more to offer than others. DAMON SALVATORE has been a fan favorite since the very beginning, I mean anyone could fall for his smile but some genuine reasons are mentioned below.
Vampire Diaries and all its characters have always received nothing but love from their fans. Though the initial story suggested a face-off between the Salvatore brothers – Damon and Stefan over their legendary love for Elena aka Katherine (whose doppelganger Elena is). Since the series has so many characters, it becomes really difficult to judge who was the most loved and fan favorite through the 8 seasons the series went on. But considering everything Damon Salvatore was the most loved character and here’s why….!!!
HIS LOVE STORY WITH ELENA
At the beginning of the show, it was Stefan and Elena who were paired together and Elena was head over heels in love with him. But fans were very certain ever since Damon and Elena met that they will have a romantic future and will probably end up together. The spark and charm that they had been something of another level.
BEING THE ONLY REAL VAMPIRE
The show is titled ‘Vampire Diaries’ and therefore since Damon is one of the few characters in the show who was a Vampire for almost the entire show (except the last 5 minutes), he certainly is expected to be the most loved character of the show.
SURVIVING THE FINALE
Among the characters that started and starred in the 1st season of the show, very few actually survived till the end. Damon was one character who survived till the very last season and also in fact the season finale. He got to live a long and happy life with Elena and certainly got everything he ever wanted in the show.
BEING THE MOST DEVELOPED CHARACTER
The series has a lot of great characters including Stefan and Elena but the development and arc that Damon’s character showed through the course of 8 seasons was something of another level. Damon started off to portray the ‘grey’ character of the show but soon, slowly, and gradually his nature changed completely, and at the end of the show, he was certainly someone else.
HE GOT HIS GIRL
Damon’s love for Elena (or even Katherine) is much known to everyone. But the show started with Elena falling in love with Stefan. Elena’s confusion over which Salvatore’s brother to go for has been something a lot of fans have discussed and always felt the need to have an answer for. But it was Damon who she chooses in the end.
RECLAIMING HUMANITY
This moment is the highlight of the show and certainly the most defining aspect too. The way Damon started the show – being naïve, conniving, and always causing trouble, and the way he ends the show by reclaiming humanity is something fans have absolutely loved about the show.
In one way or another, it is quite clear that the series had a lot of defining characters but Damon is at the very top of the list with the highest fan base and therefore the most loved character too.
