Love triangles always make it hard and the decision to choose one over the other surely complicates things. In a show like Vampire Diaries, it gets only worse.
Damon-Elena Gilbert-Stefan Stefan formed a triangle that was always complicated, filled with romance and a lot of drama. The fans were always enthralled seeing the charismatic trio and it was a big question for a very long time as to who would actually end up with Elena Gilbert and who will she chose. The series began with Elena pairing up with Stefan and it certainly seemed the right choice and though they seemed okay, fans always suspected will there be something more, and is there a possibility of a twist?
Some reasons why Stefan was the ‘safe’ choice for Elena and makers started with it are:-
- THEY WERE SOULMATES
The series showed that it wasn’t just their present lives but their previous lives too that they had been attached to. It wasn’t just Stefan and Elena who were attached but also their doppelgangers that is their identical twins ‘Silas and Amara’ were also together. So according to the script they were ‘soulmates’ therefore meant to be together.
- THEY MET FIRST AND STEFAN HELPED HER WITH HER PARENTS
At the very beginning of the series, Elena’s parents had a tragic accident, resulting from which they died. Elena obviously had this overwhelming grief and she was at an all-time low but then she found Stefan and things started changing. They started hanging out and she started feeling a little more of herself and therefore he provided her a go-to place.
- THEY HAD A SIMILAR KIND OF NATURE
Unlike Damon Salvatore & Elena who proved the saying ‘opposites attract’ true, Stefan & Elena had a very similar nature and a similar kind of approach towards life. Stefan certainly was a little more sensitive and altruistic than Damon. He was selfless and wanted to help others, unlike Damon, at least for how Damon was in the 1st half of the series.
- THEY FELL IN LOVE FIRST
Though the brothers were truly, madly, deeply in love with Katherine, in the case of Elena it was Stefan who first propounded how much he loved Elena and therefore they started their relationship. Though Stefan wasn’t the first Salvatore brother Elena met (at least whom she remembered), he was the first one she was head over heels in love with.
- THEY WERE DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER
Stefan was the ‘good cop’ or in case ‘brother’ and he was portrayed to be the Night in Shining Armor of Elena. They were both meant to be together according to everything they showcased.
The script might have been rooting for Stefan and Elena (aka Stelena) to be together and was maybe made for each other. But she surely was Damon and Elena (aka Delena) fans were crazy for. They were the more loving couple than the 1st one and definitely, the one’s fans were crazy about. Maybe it was because of fans the makers had to change the script and who ended with who questions were answered.
