Tony Stark and Scarlet Witch

Wanda Holds No Grudge Against Tony Stark

WandaVision finale contained a number of scenes that suggested that Wanda’s beef with Iron Man is no more.

Wanda Maximoff has certainly become a badass avenger and has gone a long way as a hero. She made her debut in the MCU in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and if we remember correctly, she started out as a villain. Her whole motivation for being a villain was taking down Tony Stark and his team of fake heroes as she and her brother saw them. Though she left villainy and joined the forces of heroes, it was never made clear whether or not she holds hard feelings for Tony Stark anymore. Wanda’s journey in the MCU has been one full of pain and loss.

Wanda And Tony Stark

Even Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, stated the Wanda Maximoff was the person who has suffered the most in the MCU. She lost her parents, her brother, and then the love of her life, and suffering all those losses left her devasted. Her unimaginable pain led her to create her own perfect reality, The Hex, where everything was according to what she always wished for. Even after so much time, the MCU never clearly explained how Wands’s hate for Tony Stark turned out, but the finale episode of WandaVision might have finally broken the ice on this long-awaited question.

Wanda, Suffering And Stark

Wanda and Pietro Maximoff started off as villains which led them to volunteer for HYDRA’s experimentation program. In Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the siblings opened up about their motivations for their actions, which was to take payback from Tony Stark. They stated that they lost their house and parents to a bomb that was manufactured by Tony Stark Industry. They later had a change of heart and decided to join the Avengers in the fight against Ultron, which ultimately led to Pietro’s death. WandaVision’s episode “Previously On” explored the origin of the heroine, when Agatha forced her to witness her most painful memories again, which included the Stark Bomb explosion scene which was discussed in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Though in the aftermath of the movie, Wanda decided to continue working with the Avengers and helping them fight evil but deep down still held a grudge against Tony Stark as we never saw her bonding with him as we saw her with others. The Series Finale finally shed some light on the topic and revealed that Wanda has finally forgiven Tony Stark which was suggested by her action during the fight against Agatha.

The Evidence For Forgiveness

During her fight with Agatha, she used the tactics which she previously used on Iron Man, suggesting that she still holds him in her memory. Amidst their fight, she threw a car to distract Agatha, the similar trick which she used against Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War. She also used the creepy walk and mind control trick on Agatha, which she used on Stark at the beginning of the movie. Another subtle tribute to Iron Man was paid when Wanda defeated Agatha the same way he defeated Thanos. During the final fight scene of Avengers: Endgame, Tony led Thanos to believe that he was winning and had acquired the Infinity Stones.

It was until later that he found out that Tony Stark tricked him and took possession of the Infinity Stones which giving away the gauntlet. Similarly, Wanda tricked Agatha into believing that she was winning while she was secretly casting the rune spell on the Hex, which disabled Agatha’s Magic. This suggests that even after everything that has happened between them, Wanda still looked up to stark as a Hero and remembered him and his deeds. Wanda lost Vision again along with her twin sons and made peace with her suffering which included forgiving Tony Stark for the death of her parents. Though it felt good to see her forgiving Stark after all this time, it would have been better to see it happen when Stark was still alive.
