MCU's Superheroes

Why Losing Superheroes Is Not An Issue For Marvel?

Characters dying and actors retiring is not an issue for Marvel. Find out the reason below?

The MCU is a home for some of the most loved cinematic characters of all time. Marvel’s choices for their characters is so precise that it almost seems as if the actors were born for their respective roles. However, the MCU has been losing quite a few characters, some to the plot and some to the actors’ voluntary retirement. Usually losing characters would mean the end of the series/movie franchise, but that is not the case for the MCU according to Dave Bautista.

Dave Bautista, the wrestler turned actor whom we all know and love as MCU’s Drax the Destroyer believes that MCU losing actors, because of various reasons, won’t affect its future. Making his debut in the MCU from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 1 in 2014, Bautista’s Drax the destroyer quickly became a fan favourite with his innocent comical puns and wisecracks. So far we got to see Bautista’ Drax 4 times in the Infinity Saga of the MCU and he is set to return twice more in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

Sadly, the actor has announced that his appearance in the threequel of Guardians of the Galaxy will be his last in the MCU. Bautista’s reasons for taking such a big step included the improper portrayal of his character along with his age as a huge factor. Bautista revealed that he is getting too old to maintain the physique necessary for his character who hates shirts and prefers not to wear one. Although, his thoughts were correct from his point of view, however, one cannot simply ignore the massive heartbreak it will cause the fans to lose one of their favourite characters.

Dave Bautista’s Thoughts On The MCU’s Future

In an interview with Vulture, Dave Bautista stated that even though numerous actors have departed from the MCU (such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, and including Bautista himself), it won’t be a problem for the MCU’s future because the number of superheroes that exist in the Marvel universe is huge and the number only went high after Disney acquired the rights for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

“I don’t think it’s a problem, because the Marvel library is so extensive. They’re gonna have material to draw from for well after I’m dead and gone. I know Disney has purchased Fox, and the X-Men have a whole extensive life ahead of them. That’s going to be a whole new universe. Their library is just too extensive. There’s so much there that they’ll never run out of material or actors or superheroes” he said.

I mean he’s not wrong, the Marvel universe is huge and now that it’s complete again, there are so many ways the story can go in, with so many new characters that can come into play, the only problem that exists is are the fans going to love the new arrivals or not.

Though there are a lot of superheroes that can be introduced, not all of them are very popular which is kind of risky for the MCU but let’s not forget the hero who practically build the MCU from scratch- Iron Man who was considered a B-list hero at that time. So, in a way Dave Bautista is absolutely right in saying that the actors retiring and characters dying will not endanger the MCU’s future. What are your views on the same?
