Origins

“I’m Diana of Themyscira, Daughter of Hippolyta. In the name of all that is good, your wrath upon this world is over.”

Born to Hippolyta, the queen of Amazons, a warrior race of unaging women with superhuman strength and speed and fathered by Zeus, the king of the Greek Pantheon, Diana grew up on an isolated and hidden island called Themysicra. Like the rest of her kind, she spent hundreds, if not thousands, of years training in combat before she left the island with the rescued male pilot Steve Trevor. Armed with mystical weapons, she fought in World Wars and since then, aims to bring peace to the world of man under the name Wonder Woman.

“I made my choices! They define me! They made – NO, I make my decisions. I make my reality. And my reality is… I am… Captain Marvel!”

Born to a US Navy father, an army brat, Carol Danvers joined the Air Force at 18 and dreamt of becoming an astronaut.  After becoming the head of security in NASA, she got caught in an alien struggle which resulted in an explosion of Psyche-Magnetron, a device that was designed to bestow superhuman powers to alien species called Kree. In a twist of fate, it is revealed that Carol’s mother was actually a Kree disguised as a human, and hence, it resulted in her becoming a superhero as Miss Marvel initially. Later, she took the mantle of her mentor and thus named herself Captain Marvel.

Let the battle begin between Captain Marvel vs Wonder Woman!

On any given day, both can easily beat each other depending on the versions we are talking about. Since both these characters have gone through multiple reboots, we will go with their most cannon stories and feats from the comic books.

Round 1: Strength

Wonder Woman helped move the earth around along with Superman and Martian Manhunter. Assuming she was lifting her share and the strength needed to move an object out of the sun’s orbit, she was lifting 2.2 quintillion tons. She lifted a Celestial of the ground which, according to Marvel’s official database are 2000 feet in height and weigh around 260 tons on average.

Winner: Wonder Woman

Round 2: Speed

It’s no secret that she can block multiple bullets from her bracelets. Wonder Woman has defeated the speedster Professor Zoom while blind and even raced the Flash on occasions. Captain Marvel flew from earth to the upper atmosphere in 118 seconds and as Binary, she can fly at light speeds.

Winner: Wonder Woman

Round 3: Durability

Wonder Woman was able to punch a nuclear warhead point-blank which then blew in her face hardly even fazing her. She even took light speed-punches from Zoom which according to Flash hit like a white dwarf star which equals 2 billion megatons of force. She has survived a nuclear blast and a shot from Disintegrator Beam which destroyed the android Vision in one shot and took a hit from a Tachyon Laser. As Binary, she was able to withstand planet obliterating attacks from the Phoenix force.

Winner: Wonder Woman

Round 4: Fighting Prowess

Born in the ancient Greek era, Diana was trained at a very young in every aspect of combat, thus amassing thousands of years of training experience. She is also a war veteran who has participated in one or both World Wars. According to Batman, Diana is the best melee fighter in the world which is in a feat in the DC universe. Although Captain Marvel has trained in several martial arts with the best combat artists in the Marvel Universe, she mainly relies on her cosmic powers to hold her own against any super-powered being in a battle.

Round 5: Weapons and Arsenal

Wonder Woman’s most prominent weapon is her Lasso of Truth, a physically unbreakable lasso that can force the truth out of anyone it binds, and her Bracelets of Submission, cuffs that block and repel most of the physical and magical attacks. With all the cuffs and binding ropes, Wonder Woman might just be into BDSM. She also wields the Sword of Athena which can slice electrons of an atom and a magical shield she can use to protect herself against a barrage of enemy fire. Wonder Woman’s headdress, a tiara can be used as a boomerang to attacks out-of-reach objects. Wonder Woman wears a mythological girdle known as The Golden Girdle of Gaea which acts as an extra armor on her already durable physique. For footing, she has Telaria, the sandals of the Greek messenger god Hermes, which enhance her speed and flight.

As mentioned earlier, Captain Marvel doesn’t employ any general weapon on a regular basis nor does she have any specific iconic arms that she uses against her enemies.

Captain Marvel’s villains include Yon-Rogg the Kree military commander, Supreme Intelligence the leader of the Kree alien race, Moonstone, and a Skrull super soldier literally named Titannus.

Round 7: Tricks

Removing the Bracelets of Submission unleashes Wonder Woman’s godly strength that she inherited from her father Zeus which makes her on par, if not greater, than the gods of the Greek pantheon. Captain Marvel can manipulate energy, fire photon blasts, and absorb enormous amounts of energy such as the energy released from the nuclear warhead, which can increase her power and transform into her final form, in a very Dragon Ball style, called Binary.

Winner: Captain Marvel

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

Round 8: Weakness

Wonder Woman is susceptible to sharp piercing weapons that can penetrate her skin, although it would take a lot more than a mere bullet to take out the demigoddess Amazonian warrior princess. Captain Marvel has lost her Binary form before, and absorbing magical energy can be a bit of a gamble for her.

Winner: Captain Marvel

The Verdict

In a very one-sided fight, Wonder Woman wins by a majority of rounds. Captain Marvel might be one of the most powerful female superheroes but she stands no chance when facing the powerhouse that is Wonder Woman.
