The MCU Career of John Krasinski Is Probably Over, No Talks About Fantastic Four

According to John Krasinski, his appearance as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness was a one-off, and there have been no plans for him to reprise the role.

John Krasinski will not be reprising his role as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot, according to an interview with TheWrap. Krasinski had previously made a surprise cameo as a multiversal variant of the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the film, Krasinski’s Mister Fantastic was a member of the Illuminati, alongside Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell).

“There aren’t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan,” Krasinski said in the interview. “Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the Doctor Strange set. I’m a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill.”

Director Sam Raimi also hinted that Krasinski’s appearance in Multiverse of Madness was a one-off in the film’s audio commentary. “It’s so funny that [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be,” Raimi said. “And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.’ I’ve always really enjoyed all of his performances.”

No official information has been released regarding who will play Mister Fantastic in the Fantastic Four reboot, which is currently set to release on February 14, 2025. Marvel has confirmed that WandaVision director Matt Shakman will helm the film, following the departure of Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts.

Meanwhile, Krasinski has recently finished shooting and directing Imaginary Friends, starring Ryan Reynolds and Steve Carell. He will also appear in Jack Ryan Season 3, which premieres on Prime Video on December 21.
